What is a NDSS Access Point?
NDSS Access Points are appointed by Agents to perform certain functions in relation to the Scheme. Most significantly, NDSS Access Points are where Registrants buy their NDSS products. There are 4,000 NDSS Access Points delivering the NDSS across Australia.
An Agent may appoint any of the following bodies to become an NDSS Access Point::
- community pharmacies
- community health centres
- diabetes centres
- hospitals
- divisions of general practice
- appropriate allied health practices
- Aboriginal health services, and
- other appropriate outlets that have been approved by Diabetes Australia in writing.

Key Services
It’s important to note that the role of the NDSS Access Point extends beyond just being a shopfront for NDSS products. The key services provided by NDSS Access Points are summarised below.
- Provide a reliable supply of products to Registrants, and maintain a supply to meet both the anticipated and actual demand for products from Registrants.
- Receive new registrations for the NDSS and submit them to Diabetes Australia.
- Provide Registrants with accurate and appropriate information and professional advice on diabetes and effective self-management, referrals to appropriate health professionals, advice on the appropriate use of products and distribute NDSS material to Registrants.
- Provide Registrants access to a person who is employed or engaged by the NDSS Access Point who has specialised training in NDSS policies and procedures.
- Display and promote the NDSS, NDSS materials and products.
A significant majority of NDSS Access Points are pharmacies.
