Study for Men with Diabetes in Rural Australia

07.02.2012

In 2012, DCO is taking a particular interest in rural health given the poor outcome and increasing problems around diabetes in rural and remote regions.  With an “In Memory of Barry Young” grant from the Australian Diabetes Society (ADS) and Servier, DCO is carrying out a study looking at the impact of their web-based counselling services for men living with diabetes in rural areas of Australia.  This is to help evaluate the effectiveness of online counselling for this much forgotten demographic.  Participants are asked to complete online surveys pre- and post-contact with the service.  Participants will receive support, counselling and connections with other men living with diabetes.  Diabetes Counselling Online is working with University of Tasmania, Flinders University and Diabetes Outreach in SA, and has ethics approval from both Flinders University and SA Health.
