Changes to the NDSS for Access Points

Updated 20 April 2022

Changes to CGM Initiative from 30 May 2022

FreeStyle Libre sensors—DELISTING

From 30 May 2022, FreeStyle Libre sensors will be removed from the range of products available through the Australian Government’s Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) Initiative as part of the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS).

Abbott Diabetes Care has advised that it will soon be replacing FreeStyle Libre with FreeStyle Libre 2 sensors in Australia. FreeStyle Libre 2 has been available through the NDSS since 1 August 2021 and will continue to be available.

Current users of FreeStyle Libre sensors

In order to ensure that access to products through the CGM Initiative and continuity of care is maintained for users of FreeStyle Libre, the NDSS is supporting people with diabetes through the change to a replacement device.

Users of FreeStyle Libre, accessed through the CGM Initiative, will be automatically updated to FreeStyle Libre 2 (NDSS Product code 970) on 30 May 2022. There is no requirement for these people to see their diabetes health professional. However, people should make an appointment with their diabetes health professional as soon as possible if they:

  • have concerns, questions or require assistance transitioning to the new device, or
  • wish to discuss using an alternate device.

How do I respond to people registered with the NDSS if they have questions?

People with queries about the CGM Initiative—such as how they can register, who is eligible, what products are available, or the difference between individual products—should be directed to the NDSS website (ndss.com.au) or the NDSS Helpline on 1800 637 700.

How can I get more information about the CGM Initiative?

NDSS Access points can obtain further information about the CGM Initiative and the NDSS by:

  • visiting the NDSS website
  • calling the NDSS Helpline on 1800 637 700.
