Published: 4 July, 2025 If you support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples living with diabetes, there are now two new eLearning modules designed to help you provide culturally safe care. Launched by the NDSS in partnership with the Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA), these free, online modules build on the success of the award-winning Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health—diabetes eLearning. Whether you’re a health worker or a health professional, these new resources can help strengthen your knowledge and practice. Explore our two new courses here: Brief interventions to support diabetes self-management Diabetes stigma and discrimination Better conversations, better outcomes Brief interventions to support diabetes self-management focuses on short, person-centred conversations that can empower people to take charge of their health. Based on the successful B.strong program, this module offers practical tools to support self-management of diabetes in a way that respects culture, values and lived experience. Addressing stigma, together Diabetes stigma and discrimination tackles an often-overlooked barrier to care: diabetes stigma. Many people living with diabetes face judgement, shame or blame, which can make it harder to access support. Co-designed with an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander expert reference group, this module explores the impact of stigma and gives you strategies to reduce its effects in clinical settings and in the community. Why this matters As someone working closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, you understand the importance of culturally safe care. These modules are designed to meet you where you are, on your schedule, and help you build the confidence and skills to make a difference.
