NDSS launches new mental health resources for health professionals

Published:

We are pleased to announce the release of new resources and tools for health professionals through our Supporting Emotional Health hub. The resources focus on assisting health professionals to feel more equipped and confident in recognising and responding to the health challenges that can arise for people living with diabetes, with validated questionnaires, videos and toolkits available for use.

In tandem with the Looking after your Mind hub, the NDSS aims to assist those living with diabetes, and those helping them, to better understand mental and emotional health factors and conditions, and how to discuss these topics in a safe and open environment. For health professionals, this includes identifying potential mental health issues, incorporating emotional wellbeing conversations into routine consultations, and a problem-solving framework that can be passed onto those living with diabetes to help them identify areas of concern in their own time.

Mental health challenges are common among people with diabetes. These emotional impacts can affect self-management and overall wellbeing, making it essential that mental health is addressed as part of routine diabetes care. With these resources, you can start the conversation today.

We are committed to improving health outcomes for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people affected by diabetes and those at risk.
